Clinical Psychologist
...about me
From a personal perspective it is essential to me that clients feel comfortable, respected, heard and understood. Therefore, creating a healthy environment in which we can work together to help achieve their goals. For some seeing a psychologist may be a new experience and a bit daunting, however, I like to pride myself on ensuring that it remains a very natural interaction.

From a professional perspective clinical psychologists are trained in understanding the person as a whole, all the factors that have shaped us throughout our lives and impacted on our functioning. This is done by gaining a thorough understanding of the client, group or team, creating a formulation (understand how all key factors interact, hinder, help, etc.) and then work collaboratively to reach the desired goal. This could be via learning new skills, self development, supervision of teams, consultations, group work, teachings, psychological work / therapy, etc. It is a process which provides individuals and teams with a understanding of themselves, knowledge of how to achieve their goals, the skills to achieve them and importantly the empowering 'internalising experience' of the fact that 'they' have achieved it.

It is often important to not just consider specific times of sporting performance or times of difficulty, but rather the whole. In life as in sport, if someone can function better they will train better, easier to coach, more motivated, less distracted, happier and have improved wellbeing. We can develop 'positive cycles' rather than 'negative cycles' for sporting and non-sporting people. My work so far has shown a clear increase in individuals' functioning and performance.
